John Banks, longtime journalist and currently NFL editor for ESPN.com, in his book “Connecticut Yankees at Antietam” tells the tales of soldiers and others who were at the Battle of Antietam on Sept. 17, 1862, the bloodiest day in American history. Before the Civil War, they were farmers, teachers, laborers, blacksmiths, and cigar makers – everyday people with everyday jobs. They hailed from all over Connecticut, including Newton S. Manross of Bristol. Many of these stories are found in his recently released book, which will be available for purchase. Banks will be speaking at the Bristol Historical Society, 98 Summer St., Bristol, on Thursday, March 20 at 7 p.m. The program is free to members, $5 for non-members.
