John Sarachun, 90, of Terryville, husband of Helen (Pirog) Sarachun, passed away Thursday March 17, at home.
John was born Feb. 4, 1926 in Terryville, son of the late Klement & Mary (Bodak) Sarachun. John was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a parishioner and usher at the Immaculate Conception Church, Terryville. John was the owner and operator of the former Johnny’s Coffee Shop in Terryville until 1967 and then employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Southington as a foreman. After his retirement he worked for the Scott Funeral Home in Terryville for over 25 years and also for Wollenberg’s of Terryville. He was a member of the American Legion Plymouth Post #20 and was an avid fan of the UCONN Huskies. John loved a good laugh, had a great sense of humor and was loved by his family and friends.
Beside his wife he is survived by his son, John K. “Jay” Sarachun of Terryville, his nieces, Sharon Schermerhorn of Barnstable, Mass., Bonnie Schermerhorn of Taos, New Mexico, Susan Pohlod of Bristol and his nephew, James Schermerhorn of Pasadena, Calif. He was predeceased by his brother, Michael and sisters, Nell Schermerhorn and Ann Sterling.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 22, 10:30 a.m. from the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville to the Immaculate Conception Church, Terryville for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Entombment with military honors will be at Holy Family Mausoleum, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
