Obituaries: John J. Corbin

John J. Corbin died peacefully on  February 15, 2016,  in Hudson, FL. He was 91 years old.

John was born June 11, 1924 in St. Leonard, Canada, son of the late Leo and Mary (Dumont) Corbin. John is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Emma (Neal) Corbin. Survivors also include his children, John Corbin of Unionville CT, Janet Binkerd of Charlotte VT, and Lynn Swearingen of San Francisco CA; siblings Harold Corbin, Rita Grey and Mary MacDonald; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert Corbin, a sister Dorothy Porinni and his parents.

A decorated veteran of WWII, John served in the U.S. Navy with the rank of Coxwain. Trained in underwater demolition at Fort Pierce (this was the start of the Navy Seals) he was assigned to the Third Naval Beach Battalion. John served on the warship USS Wm. P. Biddle and participated with the Marines in six Pacific invasions: Tarawa, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Guam, Leyte and Lingayen Gulf.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and good friend. He retired from a successful career as an Engineer at Pratt & Whitney.

A Mass of Christian Burial followed by full military honors will be held directly at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Road, Southington, CT on Saturday, February 27th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the charity of your choice.
