BRISTOL – It took quite some time before the girls of the Bristol Central cross country team finally dropped a meet in CCC South action.
And even as the Rams fell to Wethersfield on Tuesday, Oct. 6 from Rockwell Park in Bristol, it was a close meet throughout.
The final score was 24-32 in the Eagles favor but four runners from the Mum City placed among the top ten.
Hannah Jones was one such athlete, placing second overall in a time of 22:21 while teammate Ashley Cummings took fifth with a finish of 24:30.
Also for the Rams, Christi Peabody (sixth, 24:40) and Allison Jones (eighth, 25:06) ran well for the home squad but the team just came up a couple places short.
“We lost a heartbreaker today,” said Central coach Tamara Stafford-Kirk. “The race was actually much closer than the score indicates and I am confident that we can race to beat Wethersfield at the CCC Championship.”
But, just like their counterparts on the boys side, there’s plenty of the season remaining to catch up in the standings.
After Central, Eastern, and St. Paul go at it on Thursday, Oct. 15, the Rams join the squads of the CCC come for the league’s annual championship meet – a chance for the locals to get revenge on Wethersfield.
And then on Saturday, Oct. 31, Central competes in the Class L meet while on Nov. 6, the State Open event takes place.
