HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ The state’s largest teacher’s union has hired former Connecticut House Speaker Chris Donovan.

Mark Waxenerg, the executive director of the Connecticut Education Association, tells the Connecticut Post (http://bit.ly/1GLBDbM ) that Donovan is perfect fit for the job of field representative for the union, having served in a similar position with the community college system.

Donovan stepped down from the state legislature in 2012 to run for Congress, but lost in the Democratic primary to now-U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty after his campaign became enveloped in a financing scandal.

Prosecutors say campaign workers and others tried to hide the source of $27,500 in contributions to Donovan’s campaign, which was given in hopes of blocking state legislation that would harm the roll-your-own tobacco industry.

Donovan was not charged and denied wrongdoing.
