Bristol Central High School will be honoring the veterans and current military alumni of Bristol Central at its first home football game at Muzzy Field on Oct. 3. Kickoff against RHAM high school will start at 6 p.m.

During the game, there will be several fund raising opportunities in which all proceeds will benefit the building of the Fisher House at the VA Hospital in West Haven.

The Fisher House is a “comfort home,” which enables family members to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for combat wounds or unexpected illness, disease or injury.

“The Fisher House program helps 20,000 families and has made more than four million days of FREE lodging available to families since it originated in 1990.” stated Kevin E. Creed, a Bristol Attorney,  a retired major and volunteer director of the Friends of Fisher House Connecticut.

The Bristol American Legion Post #2 Honor Guard, coordinated by Honor Guard Commander Bob Coffey will be on center field while the Bristol Central High School band plays the National Anthem. In addition to welcoming all military members to stand on the field during the Anthem, 10 Bristol veterans also will be recognized at the game for their sacrifices to the country.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize our local heroes, bring our alumni together, raise money and awareness for the Fisher House, while cheering on our Bristol Central Football Team,” said Marisa Calvi-Rogers, assistant principal at BCHS who is helping with the night’s activities along with Chris Cassin, Bristol Public School’s Athletic Director.

All members of the military who would like to come down to the field should be at Muzzy Field by 5:30 p.m. The entry fees are $5 for adults; $3 for students; $1 for children under 10 and senior citizens are free.

For any questions or comments, contact Calvi-Rogers, at (860)584-7757 or email to marisacalvi-rogers@ci.bristol.ct.us. Also you can like on Facebook, the Bristol Central High School Alumni Organization for additional information regarding this game or any future alumni events.
